1. Team Communication (done for you, see This Week’s Video)- Slack https://slack.com/signin#/signin

Slack allows us to use instant messaging, so we are always able to be in contact with one another. Unlike Facebook, Slack allows us to create channels to organize our conversations, add threads to those conversations and archive our channels o that we always have an easily searchable record of previous discussions.  Slack integrates with Google Docs so we can share files easily.

  1. Document Sharing- Google Docs https://gsuite.google.com/products/docs/

Since Team communication is being completed by use of Slack, and Slack integrates with Google Docs, it would be seamless to use Google Docs as a means of document sharing.  This would make sharing of documents easy to share and the team would have knowledge of Google Docs through the team communication tool, Slack.

  1. Version Control – Git https://git-scm.com/

Git is free and open sourced version control system that is fast, easy to learn to use, and is able to handle projects both small and large. Git was chosen as members of the team had worked with this tool previously and when asked which tool was preferred for version control, unanimously chose Git. As the project manager, I allowed for this choice as productivity and creativity both can be built with teams making choices for the best suited tools for their projects. I also researched Git and was impressed by the free cost and effectiveness of the tool.

  1. Prototyping- Invision https://www.invisionapp.com/home

Invision allows for fast prototyping before code is written.  It gives a culture of shared                  design and shared thinking within an organization, which is one of the things we wish to create in the culture of our organization. Invison allows for easy collaboration with all stakeholders of a project.

  1. Time Tracking-Toggl  https://toggl.com/

Toggl allows for time tracking for project management, as well as employee tracking so that management does not need to micromanage, and employees can flex time as needed. It is easy to use and gives clients a report on how time is spent on projects.

  1. Project Management- https://www.projectmanager.com/google

Project Manager is a google app that helps to create project plans, schedule workload, organize and manage project teams. It was chosen because it syncs with other google apps that are in use by this organization and this will allow for a more seamless application for all teams using google.

  1. Code Testing-  https://www.mabl.com/

For code testing, I chose Mabl. Mabl is a test automation company which allows development teams to create a culture of quality by using its end to end testing throughout the entire development lifecycle. Mabl will assist with creating, executing and maintaining of reliable tests that then would help us with faster delivery of quality applications.

  1. Digital Marketing Analytics   Google Marketing Platform https://marketingplatform.google.com/about/analytics/

For digital marketing analytics, I also chose a Google product to keep the consistency of the many Google apps that we had previously chose. Google analytics is a web-based service that reports on data such as traffic efficiency bounce rates, landing pages and more. The cons of this program are that it will not give insight on to why visitors have behaved the way they do (entering and exiting, popularity reasons etc.); however, Google analytics has been established for a long time and many of the staff already are familiar with it. It was chosen because it has served us well in projects in the past and continues to be a relevant tool that meets our needs.

  1. SEO (Search Engine Optimization)  Google Search Console https://search.google.com/search-console/about

The choice for using Google Search Console came out of the desire to have consistency within the company for most of the tools to come from a single suite rather than be scattered amongst several different tools from different companies.  Google Search Console provides information regarding search traffic and reports on ways to fix issues as needed. It would give us useful analytics to help understand our position in Google, what attracts visitors, and would help us understand our traffic patterns. Google provides support and training videos to help with implementing this tool.

  1. Page Speed Testing- https://www.uptrends.com/tools/website-speed-test

For speed testing for both mobile apps and websites, I chose uptrends.  Uptrends does more than just give the speed; it also gives a report regarding the quantity and size of a company’s page elements including images, script files, HTML files and the domains that the elements come from. The report will help us discover slow loading and failed elements to assist us with bringing back our performance. Uptrends will send reports daily to help optimise performance and it monitors 24 hours a day, which will free up time for our employees to work on other tasks but will also maintain our website and mobile sites integrity and alert us when a problem arises.
